Pre-School Classes & Kindergarten

Pre-School

For children from 3-5 years of age -  5 mornings with option of 3 or 5 afternoons

In the mixed age group classes, the children are exposed to an academically and culturally enriched environment.  The children learn respect for themselves, others, and their surroundings while they work together.  They are given freedom of choice and movement within a well ordered and carefully prepared social community and are guided by the teacher to explore and develop at their own pace.  The areas of learning in the classroom include practical life, sensorial, math, language, science, geography, art, and music.  The aim of the program is to help the child develop all aspects of his personality by fostering independence, confidence, concentration, self-motivation and a love of learning.

The afternoon program provides an extension to the mixed age group morning class True to Montessori philosophy, children pursue individual interests, working at their own level and pace.  They are free to work with materials of their choice, alone or with others.  Teachers present both individual and small group lessons, focusing mainly on literature, geography, science and the arts.  Students bring their own lunch to school each day from home.

Kindergarten

For children 5 years of age - full day program

Children will be accepted into the Kindergarten program if they are five years old by September 15th and have demonstrated readiness for the program.

In the morning, the students enjoy a well equipped Montessori environment in a mixed age group setting.  They spend the afternoon with different teachers in an enrichment program which includes writing, handwriting, math, music, science, geography, history, drama, computers and art.  The physical education program emphasizes gross motor development and includes gymnastics and swimming.  Spanish is introduced with concentration on the spoken language, including songs and games.  Special trips are planned during the year.  Students bring their lunch.
